Advanced Clinical Pharmacist

The closing date is 20 January 2026

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and forward thinking Pharmacist to join our Breast Cancer service at the Northern Centre for Cancer Care (NCCC). This role forms part of a reorganisation of oncology pharmacy services, designed to strengthen clinical support across the Breast Cancer pathways.

We are seeking an experienced clinician ready to work at an advanced level within a leading regional Cancer Centre. The successful candidate will provide high quality, patient centred clinical pharmacy input, supporting the safe and effective delivery of systemic anti cancer therapy (SACT) and contributing to the multidisciplinary management of breast cancer patients.

Based at the Freeman Hospital, the NCCC delivers comprehensive SACT services, with modern inpatient facilities, a busy SACT day unit, supportive therapy services, and an ambulatory care unit. This post offers an excellent opportunity to develop advanced oncology pharmacy skills and play a key role in shaping how pharmacy supports breast cancer care within the reorganised service model.

Main duties of the job

In this role, you will act as the pharmacy lead for breast cancer, providing specialist clinical pharmacy input across outpatient, day case and inpatient settings. You will be responsible for supporting all aspects of systemic anti cancer therapy (SACT), including verification, regimen management, toxicity assessment and ensuring medicines are used safely, appropriately and effectively. You will work closely with consultants, specialist nurses and wider MDT members, attending consultant led ward rounds, multidisciplinary team meetings and providing expert advice to support complex treatment planning.

You will contribute to oncology clinical trials activity, supporting first in human through to late phase studies, and play a key role in maintaining and developing the regional chemotherapy electronic prescribing system (Chemo Care), for which the Trust is the hub site. You will also lead and participate in service development, quality improvement, audit and clinical governance within oncology pharmacy. Education, training and clinical supervision of pharmacy colleagues and other healthcare professionals will form an important part of the role.

As part of the 7 day cancer clinical pharmacy service, you will provide specialist cover for cancer inpatient wards and support the Chemotherapy Day Unit to ensure safe and timely delivery of treatment.
