Are you ready to play a vital role in delivering justice and uncovering the truth behind undetected homicides? We’re seeking two dedicated and experienced Police Staff Investigator (PIP2 accredited) to provide a professional and effective investigative service in complex homicide investigations. This is a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact by ensuring thorough, high-quality reviews that support victims, families, and communities.
In this critical position, you’ll contribute to homicide reviews and produce detailed, accurate reports for the Crime Management Team. Your specialist knowledge and investigative expertise will be essential in delivering professional, outcome-focused reviews that uphold the highest standards of policing.
What you’ll do- Conduct in-depth reviews of historical and current major crime investigations including homicides
- Conduct quality assurance checks to ensure thorough and compliant investigations
- Provide detailed and well-presented reports and recommendations to support Homicide and major crime reviews and improve investigative practices.
This may include:
- Developing and managing investigative plans identifying actions and appropriate methods for gathering material that can be transferred into intelligence or compiled as evidence.
- Conducting interviews and obtaining accounts from victims, witnesses, and suspects, gathering information, intelligence and evidence, identifying further lines of enquiry.
- Attending and managing scenes of crimes to ensure evidence is protected and secured maximising forensic opportunities and all material, is examined, and retained in accordance with legislation, policy, and procedure.
- Carry out risk assessments for victims, witnesses, offenders, and premises.
- Prepare risk assessments, safety plans and ‘trigger’ plans to safeguard the Vulnerable
- Identify opportunities to disrupt criminal activity and work with internal and external partners to put these opportunities to use and problem solve.

What you’ll bring- Professionalising Investigations Programme (College of Policing) Post holders undertaking this role will be required to be accredited to PIP Level 2
- Strong ability to organise and plan workload according to priorities and deadlines
- A detailed understanding of the criminal justice system and a thorough and meticulous approach to undertaking tasks.
- Strong communication skills, both verbally and written
- Knowledge of Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996.
- A proven ability to deliver within tight timescales and experience of interviewing suspects, victims and witnesses.
- Experience of key roles within the structure of a homicide or other major investigation, such as exhibits, disclosure or family liaison and knowledge of HOLMES.
- Experience of Achieving Best Evidence (ABE), video Interviewing of Children and Vulnerable Adults.
- Cellebrite kiosk training – the facility used to interrogate mobile phones and electronic devices.
- Cyber Investigation / Open Source / Knowledge – Investigatory Powers Act 2016 Police National Computer Trained.
- Police National Database Trained.
- Experience of using ‘Holmes’ System – disclosure HOLMES course and exhibits HOLMES course.
- Knowledge of problem orientated policing and experience of working in partnership both internally and externally
- Experience of oral and written reports and files of evidence and be able to evidence improving relationships with others
- Successful candidates must have the ability to travel around the force area as part of this role therefore it is desirable that applicants have a full UK driving license
