Software Engineer, Systems Engineer

Overview

A leading global technology consultancy is expanding its engineering capability in Newcastle and is looking for experienced Java Developers to join high-performing delivery teams working on large-scale digital transformation programmes.

This role offers the opportunity to build modern cloud-native applications, work within agile engineering squads, and contribute to complex enterprise and public sector platforms that impact millions of users.

Engineers joining this team will gain exposure to modern engineering practices, collaborative delivery environments, and clear progression pathways into senior engineering or architectural roles.

• Design, develop and maintain scalable Java applications within distributed systems
• Build and optimise RESTful APIs and microservices architectures
• Work closely with Dev Ops, QA and cloud engineering teams to deliver CI/CD enabled solutions
• Contribute to solution design discussions and technical decision making
• Apply best practices across testing, automation, and clean code standards
• Participate in agile ceremonies and collaborative delivery planning

• Strong commercial experience with Java (Java 11+ preferred)
• Experience building microservices and API-driven systems
• Familiarity with Spring Boot or similar frameworks
• Experience working in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and Dev Ops principles
• Experience working within agile delivery teams
• Strong communication skills and stakeholder engagement ability
• Infrastructure as Code exposure (Terraform, ARM, or similar)
• Background in consulting, enterprise delivery, or public sector projects
