Location: Newcastle upon Tyne

Overview

Functional Skills Tutor (Maths and/or English) role, based in Newcastle and Durham with travel to various venues in your area. £29.78 per hour (plus teachers' pension and agile working opportunities). The WEA is the UK's largest voluntary sector provider of adult education, a charity dedicated to bringing high quality, professional education into the heart of communities. Responsibilities
  • Deliver to learners with mixed abilities to develop knowledge and understanding.
  • Undertake effective initial assessments and diagnostic activities and prepare course materials.
  • Use a wide range of formative and summative assessment practices to motivate and stretch learners to reach their objectives.
  • Provide engaging teaching, learning and assessment with a creative and supportive approach, adapting to a range of learning styles and differentiating instruction.
Qualifications
  • Teaching qualification (PCGE, Cert Ed, DET or equivalent), level 5 specialism (IQA and Assessor qualifications advantageous).
  • Experience in design and implementation of innovative learning, schemes of work and lesson plans.
  • Experience in a range of initial assessment and diagnostic tools.
  • Thorough understanding of RARPA, EIF and quality processes underpinning delivery.
  • Experience of working with adults in hard-to-reach areas who may face multiple barriers to education.
  • Strong working knowledge of OFSTED Education Inspection Framework.
  • Strong teamwork ethic and collaborative approach.
  • A passion for adult education and making a difference.
