Are you passionate about supporting young people to overcome behavioural challenges?

GSL Education are looking for a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to work in schools across Newcastle
. This role is ideal for individuals who are committed to supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviour and require additional guidance to stay focused and engaged in the classroom.

As a Behaviour Support Assistant
, you will work closely with teachers, SEN staff, and pastoral teams to support students in managing their behaviour, developing positive relationships, and achieving their full potential.

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with behavioural needs
  • Support teachers in managing classroom behaviour and maintaining a positive learning environment
  • Implement behaviour management strategies and individual behaviour plans
  • Help students develop self-regulation, confidence, and positive coping strategies
  • Support pupils who may become disengaged or display challenging behaviour during lessons
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students to encourage engagement and participation
  • Monitor student progress and behaviour, providing feedback to teachers and pastoral staff
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all students
Key Requirements of a Behaviour Support Assistant:
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with behavioural or additional needs is desirable
  • A qualification in SEN, Psychology, Education etc. or a similar field is desirable.
  • CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Teaching Assistant or childcare is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills
  • A patient, calm, and resilient approach when working with students
  • A genuine commitment to supporting students’ wellbeing and development
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
