Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated Speech and Language Support Assistant to work within secondary schools across Newcastle. This role is ideal for someone with experience in communication support, SEND, intervention work, or those looking to pursue a career in speech and language therapy, SEN teaching, or educational psychology.
You will work closely with pupils who require additional help with speech, language, and communication. This may include:
- Delivering targeted 1:1 and small‑group interventions
- Supporting students with speech delays, communication difficulties, processing challenges, or social interaction needs
- Implementing personalised strategies designed by SENCOs or external Speech and Language Therapists
- Assisting pupils in accessing the curriculum and developing confidence
- Using visual tools, communication aids, and structured resources
- Monitoring progress and providing simple feedback to teaching staff
This role is highly rewarding and plays a key part in helping students develop essential communication and social skills.
- Experience in education, SEND, care, psychology, or communication‑focused roles
- A patient, calm, and nurturing approach
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships
- Willingness to support students with a variety of additional needs
- Flexibility to work across different schools in Redcar and Teesside
Graduates in Psychology, Speech & Language, SEN, or Education are encouraged to apply

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
