Location: Newcastle upon Tyne

GSLEducation are looking for a dynamic and adaptable Learning Support Assistant to support pupils on a daily basis at a Provision in Newcastle upon Tyne. Specifically, the successful candidate will work with identified students within the school to support them on a 1:1 basis and within classes to improve their behaviour choices and outcome. Some of the pupils you will be supporting will have additional barriers, so experience of supporting different needs would be desirable.

We are accepting applications from those with Education experience, but please apply if you have any of the following experience:
Challenging SEN Provisions, Youth/ Community/ Social services, Residential Support, Ex Military/ Police/ Prison/ security services, or Mental Health Support Services (including CRISIS or Suicide prevention), Sports Coaching, or any relevant voluntary roles. Candidates with a relevant Teaching Assistant qualification are also encouraged to apply.

The school has a great reputation, and the team you will be working in are motivated, friendly, and supportive. The role requires Monday to Friday commitment with a working day of 8.30-3.30pm. As with all of our long-term roles, there is always the possibility of securing a permanent role once contractual obligations are fulfilled.

Person Specification:
  • Experienced in supporting children (3-16)
  • Great rapport builder
  • Good level of academic ability
  • Calm, kind, and positive - very proactive
  • Organised and able to take instruction
  • Can participate in, manage, and assist struggling pupils in small intervention groups or 1:1 academic session
  • A Clear Enhanced DBS registered to the update service or the willingness to complete an immediate application
  • Checkable work history
