Assurance Strategy Lead

The Performance Assurance Strategy Lead sits within the RECCo Assurance function in the Operations team and is the owner of RECCo’s Performance Assurance Strategy and its supporting frameworks, policies and guidance, being responsible for their development and ongoing evolution.

The role ensures that REC performance assurance activity remains risk-based and aligned with consumer interests and RECCo’s strategic objectives.

You will maintain a strong understanding of market developments, emerging consumer risks, and best practice in performance assurance, using this insight to periodically review and refresh the strategy to ensure it remains effective and deliverable.

Working closely with colleagues within RECCo’s assurance team and our service providers, you will ensure alignment across all assurance strands, providing a coherent strategic direction while enabling consistent execution. You will act as an internal point of reference on performance assurance concepts, supporting decision-making and prioritisation across the assurance function.

This role combines strategic leadership with an operational mindset, ensuring that RECCo’s performance assurance framework evolves in step with market and continues to provide meaningful oversight and protection for consumers.

• Own and maintain RECCo’s Performance Assurance Strategy and all supporting frameworks, policies and guidance
• Lead periodic strategic reviews in line with the REC to ensure assurance remains aligned with consumer risks, market behaviour and regulatory direction
• Translate RECCo’s strategic objectives into a coherent, risk-based and proportionate assurance model that is operationally deliverable
• Ensure alignment and consistency across all assurance activities and delivery strands, including in-house and outsourced services
• Provide strategic direction to operational teams and service providers to ensure assurance activity reflects agreed priorities and principles
• Use insight, data, and assurance outcomes to inform continuous improvement and future assurance planning
• Act as RECCo’s internal subject matter expert on performance assurance, advising governance forums and senior stakeholders
• Ensure the strategy evolves over time, incorporating market developments, digital capability and lessons learned

• Strong understanding of risk-based oversight and governance framework, preferably in a regulated environment
• Strategic mindset with the ability to consider operational realities
• Pragmatic and proportionate in approach, with a focus on delivering meaningful outcomes
• Confident communicator who can work collaboratively with internal teams, service providers and senior stakeholders.

The role requires the confidence and judgement to engage credibly in senior discussions on complex energy issues. Prior energy sector experience can be helpful, but we’re equally open to candidates who have developed this capability in other technical or regulated environments
