We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate to join our team at Benfield.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure that patients are received in a courteous, reassuring and non-judgemental manner.
  • Ensure that patients needing urgent attention are seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner.
  • Explain practice arrangements to new patients and those seeking temporary help.
  • Ensure that correct procedures are carried out.
  • Undertake a wide range of clerical tasks, having excellent keyboard skills and knowledge of word processing and data inputting.
  • Work on one’s own initiative and act as the first point of contact for the building in which the practice is based.
  • Provide administrative and secretarial support to the Practice.
  • Work with minimum supervision within the parameters of this job description.
  • Act as a team member and be part of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Open and lock up the practice premises and maintain security in accordance with Practice protocols.
  • Provide appointment booking service by phone and face-to-face and administer the appointment booking system.
  • Prepare repeat prescriptions in accordance with the practice policies and protocols.
  • Answer patient enquiries with support from other practice staff as necessary.
  • Undertake all tasks associated with the day‑to‑day running of the computer system, including links with patient services.
  • Process and distribute incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Keep the reception area, notice‑boards and leaflet dispensers tidy and free from obstructions and clutter.
  • Advise patients of relevant charges, accept payments and issue receipts.
  • Liaise with other receptionists in the organisation of clinics.
  • Attend practice meetings.
  • Clear and re‑stock consulting rooms as required.
  • Make tea/coffee and perform occasional errands as requested.
  • Participate in training, audits and risk assessments as and when appropriate.
  • Ensure all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard and in accordance with any current quality initiatives.
  • Depending on the Assistant Practice Manager and Practice Manager, undertake other administrative duties necessary to support the smooth running of the Practice.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment for patients, visitors and staff.
About us

The surgery serves a population of around 10,000 patients and is very busy.

We regularly organise staff outings, welcome medical students throughout the year, and offer a variety of patient groups such as craft groups, table tennis and an on‑site allotment.
