Experienced Behaviour Specialist – SEND School (Newbury)

We are currently seeking Experienced Behaviour Specialists for an urgent placement within a specialist SEND school in Newbury. The school provides highly effective education, therapy, welfare, and holistic support for boys and girls aged 6–19 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, alongside other complex needs.
This is a full-time role, with an immediate start, and ongoing support requirements unless otherwise advised. There is strong potential for the role to become permanent, and both temporary and permanent candidates will be considered.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
* Behaviour Management:
Implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs), Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs), and risk assessments, delivering 1:1 or small-group support as required.
* Pastoral Care:
Provide consistent emotional support, promote independence, and help students develop resilience and self-regulation skills.
* Intervention Delivery:
Lead and support specialist interventions aimed at improving social skills, communication, confidence, and self-esteem.
* Liaison & Communication:
Work collaboratively with teaching staff, parents/carers, and external professionals to ensure a consistent and joined-up approach to student support.
* Record Keeping:
Maintain accurate and timely records of behaviour, incidents, and attendance using systems such as Sleuth.
Required
Skills & Qualifications
* Experience:
Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with children or young people with SEN, specifically SEMH.
* Qualifications:
Counselling, therapeutic, or behaviour-related qualifications are highly desirable.
* Knowledge:
Strong understanding of positive behaviour support, de-escalation techniques, positive handling, and trauma-informed practice.
* Personal Attributes:
Resilient, patient, calm under pressure, and able to build strong, trusting relationships with vulnerable young people.
Working Conditions
This role can be demanding and fast-paced, involving the management of challenging behaviours. Flexibility is essential, as you may be required to support students across different areas of the school day, including unstructured times, transitions, and off-site activities.
