Role:
Production Manager / Shift Production Manager / Production Leader
Salary: £50,000 - £51,000 per annum + 8% bonus + 27 days holiday + bank holidays, life assurance, up to 10% pension (20% maximum contribution for employee/employer), and more.

Hours:

12 hour rotation shifts of days & nights - 4 shifts in week 1, followed by 3 shifts in week 2.

Location:

Commutable from Reading, Newbury, Thatcham, Swindon, Basingstoke, Andover, Oxford, Didcot, and surrounding areas

We are currently recruiting whole new layer in the production department structure, to sit in-between the Head of Production and Production Team Leader, and manage Production on-site when on shift. We are recruiting 3 Shift Production Managers to work in a large and fast moving manufacturing factory. If you've got the passion, drive and genuine leadership skills, we want to hear from you!

Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee production for the shift:
    Health & Safety, continuous improvements, labour resource, change management, delivery of production targets, quality, cost, asset control in line with budget requirements, maintenance/technical and human resources.
  • The team consists of up to 15 staff, approx.

    - made up of 3 Production Team Leaders (direct reports) and Production Operators (indirect reports); when on night shift you will also manage up to 4 Engineers.
  • Manages all aspects of the shift ensuring delivery of key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Embed a continuous improvement culture to utilise a right‑first‑time approach, reduce cost to production and minimise waste/energy.
  • Deliver production targets: volume, yield, waste reduction.
  • Lead and organise a team to ensure optimal plant performance.
  • Ensure the safety of all site personnel at all times.
  • Have an excellent knowledge of the plant and process to make informed decisions.
  • Manage within budgetary cost constraints, notably overtime, materials, etc.
  • Support and promote a continual improvement culture in line with objectives.
  • Effective communication with other departments and stakeholders at all times.
  • Identify training requirements of staff and liaise with appropriate departments to ensure action.
  • Investigate any accidents, injuries or near‑misses within 24 hours and communicate to all relevant parties.
Requirements
  • Experienced leader and manager in a relevant & fast‑paced role, ideally in production, manufacturing or warehouse logistics environments.
  • Core strengths in team management, performance management, continuous improvements and change management.
  • Performance Management & Control of KPIs – delegation to teams, monitoring performance and overseeing delivery.
  • Extremely motivated and driven individual with enthusiasm and passion.
  • Strong communicator and influencer, able to talk to people at all levels and inspire them.
  • Experience of lean manufacturing techniques and methods such as Kaizen, 5S, etc.
  • Any relevant qualifications (e.g. business management, manufacturing, engineering, continuous improvement, production or technical) are an advantage, or equivalent experience.
