Salary: £38,182 - £41,633 Actual (depending on qualifications and experience)
Newbury College is seeking a dedicated and experienced Safeguarding Manager to lead our day‑to‑day safeguarding operations and ensure every learner has the support they need to thrive. This is a pivotal role for someone who is passionate about student welfare and committed to creating a safe, inclusive and aspirational learning environment.
About the RoleAs Safeguarding Manager, you will be the operational lead for safeguarding across all College campuses. You will work closely with curriculum teams, support staff, external agencies and families to ensure that students’ emotional, behavioural and mental health needs are understood and addressed. Your work will directly contribute to increasing students’ access to education, removing barriers to learning, and promoting a culture where every learner feels safe, supported and empowered to achieve their full potential.
Key responsibilities include:- Leading safeguarding practice across the College and ensuring compliance with national and local safeguarding requirements.
- Liaising with staff and external agencies to ensure students’ needs are met promptly and effectively.
- Assessing student needs and developing strategies to support emotional, social and mental wellbeing.
- Monitoring, recording and reporting safeguarding information, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
- Using a range of intervention strategies to build resilience, support behaviour management and provide safe spaces for discussion.
- Line managing the Safeguarding Administrator and supporting safeguarding leads across all sites.
- Representing the College in multi‑agency meetings and maintaining strong professional relationships with partner organisations.
- Supporting curriculum teams to embed safeguarding, equity, diversity and inclusion within teaching and learning.
- Deputising for the Designated Safeguarding Lead when required.
You are an experienced safeguarding professional with a passion for student welfare, a strong understanding of safeguarding legislation, and the strategic insight to drive institutional improvements. You’re a confident communicator and empathetic leader who thrives in collaborative environments. You will be DSL trained and qualified to Degree Level or Equivalent. It is essential in this role that you hold a level 3 safeguarding qualification.
