Job OverviewThe Kraft Heinz Company is seeking a Refrigeration Technician to work at our food processing facility in Newberry, SC. This role focuses on troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of plant refrigeration and steam generation equipment, supporting facilities, and executing installations, alterations, and modifications.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities- Respond to plant calls related to refrigeration system deficiencies; analyze equipment operation and production methods to determine problems and implement solutions.
- Develop and implement systematic solutions to reduce recurring problems.
- Investigate plans and execute maintenance work requests efficiently and cost‑effectively, including repair, alteration, and design of thermal, electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, chemical, and biological systems.
- Consult with plant personnel on equipment and facility repair and alteration requirements.
- Prepare mechanical work requests and purchase requisitions for necessary materials.
- Consult with vendors to procure supplies, troubleshoot equipment issues, and improve plant processes.
- Enter time into SAP and handle material disbursement requisitions to document costs of mechanical work.
- Plan and execute preventative maintenance work requests and update existing or create new preventive maintenance routines to improve equipment reliability.
- Perform daily operational checks on refrigeration and steam generation equipment.
- Perform daily temperature checks on coolers to ensure compliance with plant program.
- Conduct daily inspections of plant fire protection and compressed air systems.
- Monitor usage of plant water, gas, and electricity.
- Actively participate in PSM process and project teams.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Mechanics spend 8–12 hours on their feet, service equipment across a 50‑acre area, and work on wet/slick floors and concrete/asphalt surfaces. They are encouraged to use tool pouches (~15 lb). Mechanics climb, over, under, or through equipment, catwalks, railings, utility runs, small access doors, and work in tight spaces, crawl spaces, and confined spaces. They lift, lower, or support equipment and exert significant force on hand tools.
Work may occur in dusty and smoky environments; masks or respirators are required. Temperatures range from –30 °F to 100 °F. Humidity may reach 100 % during sanitation.
An Associate Degree in Refrigeration (preferred) or 2 years of Industrial Refrigeration and maintenance experience that provides a well‑rounded understanding of the specialized job knowledge outlined above.
