Job DescriptionJOB SUMMARY:
Provide classroom, targeted instruction for migrant and Title IA and LEP students in language arts and math.
QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge of: Understanding of social and cultural issues affecting migrant students and their families.; knowledge of specific curriculum content for subject area.
Skilled in: lesson plan development, implementation of learning activities, behavior management, assessment, and teaching to individual student skill levels.
Ability to: Demonstrated ability in classroom organization and behavior management; communicate orally and in writing and build relationships with students, parents, and staff. Ability to communicate with Spanish speaking students and parents preferred.
Understanding of: Cultural and social issues affecting diverse students and their families, and students and families experiencing poverty.
Experience: Successful experience teaching migrant, Title IA, AND Title III students. ESOL endorsement, technology skills and GLAD and/or other sheltered instruction training. Spanish proficient in reading, writing, and speaking. Preference given to bilingual candidates.
Education: Completion of a higher education Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in education/ teaching license valid for 6-8 th grades with a English Language Arts, Math or Reading endorsement
Certification
Required:
A valid teaching license issued by the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission with proper 6-8 th grades with a English Language Arts, Math or Reading endorsement
- Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and times as designated.
- Plan a program of study that meets the interests, needs, and abilities of the students and follow established curriculum as written by the district and the state.
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and is appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of the supervisor.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent within the limitations of the location and resources provided by the district.
- Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning the academic and behavioral progress of the students.
- Cooperate with other members of the staff.
- Attend staff meetings and other meetings as required.
- Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules of the school and district.
- Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and maintain such records as required by law and district policy.
- Take all reasonable precautions to provide for the health and safety of the students and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Analyze student performance test results and create GLAD and/or ELD strategies with support from colleagues and director, work in PLC’s
- Prepare student presentation for closing ceremony
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Language
Skills:
Ability to read English and comprehend complex technical language. Ability to write memoranda, correspondence, lessons plans, reports, and student achievement summaries in English. Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and small group situations.
Mathematical
Skills:
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed, but basic, written, or oral instructions in English. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
