Lead Locate Technician

Job Description:

The Lead Technician is responsible for leading a group of assigned employees within their team, while maintaining and protecting their area of coverage and following company policies and safety regulations. The Lead Locate Technician is responsible for accurately locating underground facilities including telephone, electric power, cable television, gas, fiber optic, water, and sewer lines and assisting the team in achieving the same goal.

This position is a key component in ensuring the area complies with client and state requirements. Service duties include observing, locating, marking, and documenting underground and exposed utility locations using multiple methods.

All employees are assigned proper technology and work vehicles to perform all work‑related duties.

Key Tools & Equipment Provided:

  • Company vehicle
  • Laptop and smartphone
  • All personal protective equipment

Key Duties:

  • Oversee daily scheduling of contractors and sub‑contractors
  • Route tickets to ensure optimized efficiency
  • Game plan to achieve daily production targets, provide help if needed
  • Review prior day’s documents and reports
  • Review daily expectations and safety messages and adjust as needed
  • Auditing documents
  • Ensuring all documents correctly comply with client’s regulations
  • Establish client quality assurance (resolve any problems if needed)
  • Ensure all team members’ timesheets are correct and team members are accounted for
  • Locate underground facilities using a transmitter and hooking up to a buried facility, pedestal etc.
  • Work in and walk over all types of terrain in construction zones and residential, commercial, industrial, and rural areas in all weather conditions
  • Interpret job order tickets, blueprints and maps to efficiently route and perform duties
  • Perform locates and emergency/on‑call locates during regular, overtime and holiday hours as necessary to meet customer needs
  • Perform all work in a timely, professional and efficient manner while effectively communicating and interacting with customers, co‑employees and third parties
  • Communicate with management team, contractor and utility customer to ensure a damage‑free environment
  • Knowledge of technology and tools needed
  • Ability to work with others and in a supervised team environment

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalency (GED)
  • Multiple years of utility locating experience
  • Documentation of excellent quality ratio within the locating industry
  • Knowledge and experience using multiple types of utility locating equipment
  • Ability to problem‑solve
  • Ability to read, interpret, and decipher multiple types of prints
  • Ability to lift over 50 lbs
  • Ability to walk/stand for multiple hours a day
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Pass a background screening (no violations within the last 3 years)
  • Pass a DOT drug test

All employees are eligible to receive some form of company benefits. Benefits for regular, full‑time employees who maintain an average of 30 hours worked per week include paid holidays and PTO. All benefits will be available the first of the next month following 30 days of employment.
