Lead, Software Engineer (Retirement Strategies)
Job Classification – Technology - Engineering & Cloud
Location – Newark, NJ Hybrid (minimum 3 days/week in office)
Team & Role – As a Lead Software Engineer on the Retirement Strategies Technology team, you will be at the epicenter of our application modernization. You’ll help convert legacy applications into strategic, cutting‑edge solutions. Join a cross‑functional Agile team.
Typical Day- Build applications ensuring that code follows the latest coding practices and industry standards, using modern design patterns and architectural principles; remove technical impediments.
- Develop high quality, well documented and efficient code adhering to all applicable Prudential standards.
- Collaborate with product owners to understand needs and define feature stories, with tech leads to define technical design and other team members to understand the system end‑to‑end and deliver robust solutions that bring business impact.
- Write unit, integration and functional automation tests; research problems discovered by quality assurance or product support, develop solutions.
- Bring a strong understanding of relevant and emerging technologies, provide input and coach team members and embed learning and innovation in day‑to‑day work.
- Work on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires evaluation of intangible variables.
- Use programming languages including but not limited to Python, Java, or JavaScript and frameworks such as React, Spring Boot, Node.js.
- Bachelor of Computer Science or Engineering or related field.
- Ability to coach others with minimal guidance and leverage diverse ideas for benefit of the organization.
- Experience with agile development methodologies and Test‑Driven Development (TDD).
- Knowledge of business concepts, tools, and processes that are needed for making sound decisions in the context of the company’s business.
- Ability to learn new skills and knowledge on an ongoing basis through self‑initiative.
- Excellent problem‑solving, communication and collaboration skills.
- Advanced experience with several of the following:
- Programming
Languages:
Python, Java, JavaScript; experience in distributed systems, OOP, design patterns, and design methodology. Java services using Spring, Maven, micro‑services, multithreading, concurrency and parallel processing. - Frameworks:
React, Spring Boot, Node.js. - Data Stores:
No
SQL and relational data structures. - Data Streaming: SQS, Kinesis.
- API Development & Consumption; SOA patterns; REST web services.
- Testing concepts and tooling (unit, integration, end‑user) including automated and functional testing.
- Accessibility awareness.
- Software security: secure coding, web application security, Dev Sec Ops . Knowledge of authentication, authorization, encryption, JWT, SSL, SAML 2.0, OpenID Connect, OAuth 2.0.
- Dev Ops Tools & Practices:
Git branching with Git Hub or Bitbucket. - SDLC: monitoring and logging techniques.
- AWS Core Services:
Lambda, S3, Dynamo
DB. - AWS IaC code development, batch processing in AWS Cloud.
- Programming
- Preferred qualifications:
- AWS Development.
- Architecture Patterns.
- Design Thinking.
- Financial/Insurance industry experience (plus).
- Awareness of Agentic AI Platforms.
Salary range: $ – $ (adjusted by location, experience, skills).
