Research Scientist - Discovery Biology & Translational Science
W2 Contract
Location: Newark, CA - Onsite Role
We are seeking a highly motivated temporary Research Scientist to join the Biology and Translational Science group. This individual will support multiple research programs spanning preclinical discovery through clinical development. The role involves hands-on laboratory work, assay development, biomarker analysis, and collaborative project support in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Responsibilities- Serve in a scientific role supporting programs in metabolic and hematological diseases.
- Perform hands-on benchwork, including assay development and optimization for high-throughput compound screening using cell-based assays (e.g., reporter assays, ELISA/MSD, flow cytometry).
- Work with 96- and 384-well plate formats.
- Design and execute experiments to understand target biology, structure-activity relationships (SAR), and mechanisms of action.
- Analyze, QC, interpret, summarize, and communicate scientific data to project teams in a timely manner.
- Maintain electronic laboratory notebooks to industry standards, including protocols/SOPs, raw data, and analyses.
- Lead and/or contribute to the writing and revision of technical documents, including testing protocols, SOPs, and data reports.
- Collaborate closely within the biology group and cross-functional discovery teams; provide guidance to junior scientists as needed.
- Support data management, reagent and sample inventories, and cell line maintenance.
- Ensure laboratory reagents, instruments, and processes are current and meet industry standards.
- PhD in Bioengineering, Biology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related field with 1-2 years of industry experience, or
- MS in a related field with 5+ years of industry experience
- Experience in metabolic disease, hematological disease, muscle function, or related areas preferred
- Proficiency in:
- Cell-based assay development (reporter assays, MSD, ELISA)
- Tissue culture with cell lines and/or primary cells
- Spectral flow cytometry
- Preferred experience with sample automation
- Experience handling tissue samples from preclinical models, blood-based and primary cell experiments, and cell line development is a plus.
- Strong proficiency with Graph Pad Prism, flow cytometry software, and Microsoft Office for data analysis and presentation
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to independently QC, interpret, and manage large datasets.
- Willingness and ability to learn new techniques and scientific concepts
- Capable of working independently while managing multiple priorities
- Self-motivated, proactive, and able to take initiative
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced team environment
