Job Overview:
The Cardiology Ambulatory RN provides comprehensive nursing care for patients in the outpatient cardiology clinic, supporting individuals with a range of cardiovascular conditions including coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, heart failure, and post-interventional follow-up.
The RN collaborates closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, diagnostic staff, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to coordinate and deliver patient-centered care
The role emphasizes:
- Ongoing clinical assessment, triage, and symptom management for cardiology patients
- Patient and caregiver education on cardiovascular health, medications, and lifestyle changes
- Coordination of diagnostic testing, specialist consultations, and follow-up appointments
- Early identification and communication of changes in patient condition to ensure timely interventions
- Delivery of evidence-based, culturally sensitive care in accordance with institutional policies and national cardiology care standards
- Conducts thorough nursing assessments for cardiology outpatients, documenting findings and communicating any clinical concerns to providers
- Triages patient calls and messages, providing guidance within scope of practice and escalating when necessary
- Coordinates diagnostic testing (e.g., EKGs, echocardiograms, stress testing) and ensures timely review of results
- Provides patient and caregiver education regarding cardiac medications, risk factor modification, and follow-up care
- Performs medication reconciliation, evaluates adherence, and reports discrepancies to the care team
- Assists with management of patients requiring same-day interventions or IV therapies per protocol
- Collaborates with cardiologists, advanced practice providers, and allied health professionals to ensure continuity of care
- Supports post-procedure follow-up and monitoring, ensuring patients adhere to care plans and safety precautions
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and data collection related to outpatient cardiac care
- Serves as a knowledgeable resource for patients, families, and staff regarding cardiovascular disease management and prevention
Qualifications:
- Current NJ RN license
- Graduate of an accredited NLN Nursing program
- BSN Degree
- Minimum three (3) years of nursing experience, with at least 1- 2 years in cardiology, telemetry, or critical care preferred
- Current BLS Certification required
- Strong cardiovascular assessment and patient triage skills
- Excellent verbal and writtent communication skills
- Experience in ambulatory/outpatient services preferred
- Ability to manage and provide safe nursing care in a high volume practice and demonstrates a positive, professional manner.
