Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Advanced Practice Nurse for the Department of Surgery within the New Jersey Medical School. The Advanced Practice Nurse will be an integral member of the Vascular Surgery & Otolaryngology teams at Rutgers NJMS, providing patient care, improving efficiency of care, and participating in quality improvement and clinical research programs.
Key Duties- Collects comprehensive patient health data/history including past and present medical, surgical, family, and social history. Diagnostic tests and procedures relevant to the patient’s status are collected, interpreted, and documented in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Completes the medication reconciliation process by documenting the current list of medications (including over‑the‑counter and nutritional supplements) taken by the patient at each visit.
- Performs and documents an appropriate comprehensive physical assessment of patients, which will include a review of systems, evaluation of manifestations and toxicities related to medical conditions and anticoagulation management. Evaluates patients in the Emergency Department and for inpatient consultations and assists in management of these patients.
- Critically analyzes the assessment data/diagnostic tests and determines a diagnosis. In addition, develops a comprehensive plan of care that includes interventions and treatments to attain outcomes.
- Evaluates laboratory studies and diagnostic tests and provides appropriate interventions as required.
- Evaluates patient progress in attaining expected treatment outcomes and monitors for signs and symptoms related to disease progression/recurrence.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Completion of an educational program designed and conducted to prepare graduates to practice as an NP/APN with a master’s degree in nursing and certified by a national certifying body.
- A minimum of two (2) years of clinical nursing experience.
- Current Registered/Professional Nurse license.
- Certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse in the state of New Jersey with a specialization as indicated; BLS, CDS, and DEA licenses.
- Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, and creative problem‑solving are essential.
