The Unit Secretary is directly accountable to the Director of MST and indirectly to the Charge Nurse or House Supervisor. The Unit Secretary is an unlicensed person who performs indirect care in the department setting. Responsibilities include facilitating the communication needs of the department, transcribing physician orders from records (in the absence of CPOE and EMR clinical documentation system) with notation and signature by nursing staff, preparing and complying records on the Emergency Room, ordering supplies for the unit, and preparing and completing each patient's chart for necessary forms daily.

The Unit Secretary can also assist nursing staff with duties involving indirect patient care.

• High School Diploma or Equivalent or relevant experience required for all new hires, effective April 2014.
• Medical terminology preferred.
• Current BLS (AHA) certificate within 6 months of hire and maintain current.
• Experience using computers for word processing, database management preferred.

The current compensation range for this role is $19.15 per hour. The exact starting compensation will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, based on factors such as skill set, years of applicable experience, education, credentials, and licensure.
