Overview

The Student Initiatives Consultant will provide collaboration and support to the Development Department, specifically in the area of Student Sleep Outs. A Student Sleep Out is a night time peer-to-peer fundraising event held generally on the site of specific high schools throughout New Jersey, with a focus on Northern New Jersey.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serve as the Ambassador for selected Sleep Out and Student Initiatives.
  • Recruit schools, student groups, and organizations for Sleep Out:
    Student Edition.
  • Support event management and website registration.
  • Prospect, recruit, and coach participants through the Sleep Out process.
  • Grow and maintain student relationships to increase the number and effectiveness of student Sleep Outs.
  • Recruit prospects for Sleep Out editions.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with P2P fundraisers during active and off-season periods.
  • Coordinate and supervise donor immersion opportunities, as needed.
  • Organize and maintain electronic and document files.
  • Participate in fundraising events outside normal business hours (occasional weekends required).
  • Ensure prospect and donor information is entered into Salesforce.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Collaborate with other Covenant House departments.

The hourly rate for this position is $37.00 an hour working an average of 10 hours per week.

The Consultant position is a temporary position thru the end of June 2026 which may be renewed.

Qualifications

Experience and Skills:

  • Passion for the mission of Covenant House New Jersey: assist youth facing homelessness and survivors of human trafficking with absolute respect, unconditional love, and relentless support.
  • Comfort in public speaking to groups of students and high school faculty.
  • Non-profit event experience; peer-to-peer fundraising experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva, Publisher, and Google docs.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple assignments.
  • Valid New Jersey driver’s license with insurable driving record.
Travel Requirements
  • Travel in the state of New Jersey is a requirement of the role.
