Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Technician – Newark, NJ
We are seeking an experienced Instrumentation & Electrical Technician to join the engineering team at dsm‑firmenich’s Newark, NJ site. The role will be responsible for the daily repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of chemical process equipment systems and related instrumentation.
- Monitor, repair, maintain, and troubleshoot all field instrumentation such as transmitters, controllers, valves, PLCs, plant safety and power systems, pH and conductivity meters, electrical equipment and control systems.
- Ensure equipment is safely released to other technicians.
- Track E/I maintenance requirements and complete all work orders in the CMMS system.
- Coordinate and direct outside contractors and vendors as needed.
- Provide input to improve the preventative maintenance program based on field experience.
- Enforce Port Newark safety and safe work practices, including permit to work and confined space entry.

- High School Diploma or GED with at least 10 years of I&E experience in a chemical, food, or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
- Level 1 Instrumentation Certification (ISA) and familiarity with DCS‑based control systems (plus).
- Some experience in a leadership capacity.
- Capability to develop and maintain a document database.
- Strong communication skills.
Strong knowledge of chemical plant equipment and instrumentation. - Demonstrated expertise in the design of the instrument portion of P&IDs, equipment specification, and layout.
- Proficiency with MS Office:
Word, Excel, CMMS, DMS.
Hourly rate: $43.08–$50.34 per hour. In addition to base pay, we offer a comprehensive total rewards package, including annual incentive pay, a retirement savings plan, health care coverage, paid time off, recognition programs, and a broad range of other benefits (subject to eligibility).
