Compensation:
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the negotiated annual salary range for this position is $70,089.77-$ (USD)
The Analytics Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining data solutions that support the agency’s transportation planning and programming analytics. This includes grant management, financial reporting, and project tracking. This role requires expertise in database, dashboard, and report development; data integration from diverse sources—including internal systems, ERP platforms, and spatial datasets; and programming to deliver actionable insights and automate key processes that support organizational goals.
The developer will work closely with end-users to gather requirements, document technical specifications, and translate complex concepts into clear, understandable language for non-technical audiences. Strong experience with geographic information system (GIS) platforms is highly preferred, as the position often involves collaborating across teams to support and enhance GIS initiatives. Key responsibilities include preparing and integrating geospatial datasets, performing geoprocessing tasks, and presenting results through reports, dashboards, and interactive web maps.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proficient in data visualization, and committed to promoting data-driven decision‑making within a federally funded transportation planning environment.
- Report Development:
Design and develop reports and dashboards with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Power BI Report Builder/SSRS). Use languages such as SQL, DAX, and Python to query data sources and process data for reporting and decision-making. - Data Integration:
Develop application and data integration solutions between disparate sources. Integration of client web portals and in-house front‑end applications with server‑side programming by leveraging RESTful API services using open‑source and vendor‑specific frameworks. - Data Processing:
Interface with our core enterprise systems, including SQL Server, SAP HANA, Esri ArcGIS, and Office 365 (SharePoint, Power BI, Project Online) to acquire and transform data such that it can be used to produce insights relevant to the agency’s core planning and programming initiatives and federal reporting requirements. - Data Services:
Design and develop automated workflows for our core enterprise systems to streamline data interaction and data processing tasks. Design automated integration and ETL tasks through CI/CD pipelines. - GIS Support:
Support staff in the preparation of GIS data visualizations and maintenance of enterprise geodatabases, GIS automation scripts, and web mapping and spatial analytics applications, adhering to NJTPA Enterprise GIS standards.
- Support staff development needs agency‑wide and manage consultant resources as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree in computer science, GIS, information systems, or related field.
- Experience with version control such as Git.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
- Understanding of business intelligence and data warehouses.
- Strong understanding of secure, high‑performing, user‑focused web application design.
- Experience with modern front‑end frameworks (Angular, React, Vue) and back‑end development using SOLID principles.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and innovative thinking skills.
- Proven ability to plan, prioritize, manage projects, and drive process improvements.
- Clear communicator who collaborates well across technical and nontechnical teams.
