Job title: Solar Winds Monitoring SME / NOC Tool Developer
Location: Newark, NJ
Individual Contributor Role (7x24 NOC support environment)
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, recommend, implement, and integrate monitoring and alerting solutions in Solar Winds (NPM, NTA, NCM, IPAM), with Service Now integration for events, incidents, and workflows.
- Create, customize, and maintain dashboards, reports (including scheduled reports), alerting mechanisms, and tools using Solar Winds features, Power BI, and SQL tables.
- Perform requirements gathering, analysis, and recommendations to build enterprise monitoring systems following industry best practices.
- Execute network/server discovery, device monitoring, topology visualization, and root cause analysis (RCA) support.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across network, infrastructure, application, and monitoring domains.
- Collaborate with Network, Windows, Cyber Security, and operations teams for holistic monitoring.
- Automate repeatable tasks, maintain runbooks/logs/records per ITIL via Service Now, monitor system health/SLAs, and proactively suggest enhancements.
- Administer and optimize Solar Winds platform for stability, scalability, performance, polling policies, thresholds, and alerts.
- Handle special projects and initiatives as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with monitoring/observability platforms (implementation, customization, operational support).
- 5+ years as SME in Solar Winds solutions: core components, architecture, alerting, reporting, performance optimization, report generation/scheduling.
- Proven expertise in resolving complex technical issues in infrastructure, applications, and network monitoring.
- Strong knowledge of Syslog, SNMP v2/v3 (traps, forwarding, troubleshooting), and automation of monitoring tasks.
- Experience with advanced correlation platforms (e.g., Datadog, Big Panda) highly desirable.
- Ability to work independently under general direction, with strong collaboration and communication skills.
