Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Medical Services Assistant for the Medicine Department within New Jersey Medical School. The Medical Services Assistant (MSA) is to provide medical assistance to nurses and physicians in the overall care of patients, including technical procedures such as phlebotomy and intramuscular and subcutaneous injections. The MSA functions under the direct supervision and authority of the physician when performing clinical tasks during patient care.
Key Responsibilities- Participates in the care of the patient, under the direct supervision of the physician and in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Performs related and delegated tasks, which includes requests for prescription refills, taking and relaying messages, directing patient flow, and running errands.
- Identifies self‑learning needs related to job description and seeks out appropriate resources to meet learning needs.
- Schedules patient appointments including outside physicians and hospital/ancillary services.
- Manages difficult or emotional customer situations; responds promptly to customer needs; solicits customer feedback to improve service; responds to requests for service and assistance; meets commitments.
- Maintains a high level of professional responsibility and performance.
A minimum of $26.39 per hour. Minimum salary 26.39, mid‑range salary 26.89, maximum salary 27.70. The final salary offer may be determined by candidate’s qualifications, experience, expertise, and availability of department or grant funds.

QualificationsMinimum
Education and Experience:
- Graduation of a post‑secondary medical assisting education program accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Certifications / Licenses:
- Current certification from the Certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), or registration from the American Medical Technologists (AMT), or the National Center for Competency Training (NCCT), or any recognized certifying body approved by the Board.
- Applicants may be licensed in the State of New Jersey in another classification permitted by regulations to give intramuscular and subcutaneous injections.
