Overview

The primary purpose of the Ambulatory Care Technician Certified position is to support the patient and the provider throughout the ambulatory care patient visit from registration through discharge and follow up. The Ambulatory Care Technician Certified structures the patient flow for the physicians in the examination and treatment of patients. As directed by a Physician and University Hospital policy, the Ambulatory Care Technician Certified administers intramuscular and subcutaneous injections which may be delegated under State regulations.

Support all front end and clinical office procedures.

Responsibilities

Works collaboratively with faculty and staff to maintain a timely and organized flow of patients and visitors throughout their experience in Ambulatory Care Services and with University Hospital.

Maintains effective working relationship with coworkers; demonstrates teamwork.

Performs various front office procedures.

Verifies patient insurance benefits and precertification for services to be provided.

Assists with billing procedures and forms as directed.

Maintains safe and clean environment; and prepares clinical space and supplies.

Understands and adheres to University Hospital’s compliance standards as they appear in University Hospital's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.

Qualifications

Graduation of a post-secondary medical assisting education program accredited by The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education (CAAHEP) as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Applicants may be licensed in the State of New Jersey in another classification permitted by regulations to give intramuscular and subcutaneous injections. Must have attained a satisfactory level of comprehension and experience in the administration of intramuscular and subcutaneous techniques.

Must complete and pass annual review of medication administration, including classroom curriculum, hands on participation and successful passing (80 or higher) of post-test. At least one (1) year of related experience in a medical office setting preferred. Must be computer proficient. Bilingual (Spanish, Portuguese, or French) preferred. Experience in an Ambulatory Care service/outpatient care setting preferred. Candidate to be knowledgeable in Managed Care and Health Insurance in the State of New Jersey.
