Rutgers University‑Newark, an urban public research university and anchor institution located in Newark, New Jersey, is seeking a Psychologist for the Rutgers Newark Counseling Center. Reporting to the Director of the Counseling Center, this position provides individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and workshops, outreach and consultation for students, faculty, and staff.
Responsibilities- Provide individual and group counseling, campus crisis intervention, and workshops, outreach, and consultation for students, faculty, and staff.
- Serve on unit and university committees as appointed and assigned.
- Coordinate and lead teams for campus‑based projects and after‑hour/on‑call crisis response as needed.
- Offer psycho‑educational opportunities and support group opportunities for students with focus on salient themes.
- Supervise staff, embedded counselors, student workers, and support staff. >
- Support the daily administration of the center and all clinical services, including development and organization of the center’s training program and participation in adjunct clinical and research programs.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with campus, enhancing community knowledge through outreach, training, and education for students, faculty, and staff.
- Doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an accredited program with interest and background working in a diverse, multi‑disciplinary setting treating a wide range of issues, including depression, anxiety, substance abuse, adjustment disorders, personality disorders, and trauma.
- Licensure or eligibility for New Jersey licensure as a Psychologist, Counselor, Social Worker, or related field.
- Demonstrated training and employment experience in providing psychological assessment, diagnosis, and mental health treatment, time‑limited individual and group therapy, on‑call crisis intervention, supervision, and specialized skills or strong interest in multicultural issues, LGBTQ health, post‑traumatic stress (including sexual abuse and assault), substance abuse, and eating disorders.
- Experience providing time‑limited interventions and advanced knowledge of assessment, intervention, and treatment of a wide range of psychological diagnoses.
- Interest and expertise in working with diverse populations and providing clinical supervision, as needed.
- Preferred experience in a university counseling center or working with young adults, and expertise in trauma‑informed care, multicultural competence, LGBTQ, addictions, and/or time‑limited treatment models.
- Experience working collaboratively on a multidisciplinary team.
- Electronic Health Records (Titanium) skill.
