Brothers Building A Better Nation (BBABN) is a Newark-based nonprofit organization providing trauma-informed, community-centered behavioral health services to children, youth, and families through New Jersey’s Children’s System of Care (CSOC). BBABN delivers Intensive In-Community (IIC) Therapy and Behavioral Assistance to support youth with emotional and behavioral challenges, with a strong emphasis on healing-centered engagement, skill-building, and family partnership.
BBABN serves only youth and families located in Essex County, New Jersey.
Position SummaryThe Behavioral Assistant (BA) provides skill-based, non-clinical support to children and adolescents receiving Intensive In-Community (IIC) services through Perform Care. Under the direction of an IIC Clinician, the BA works directly with youth to practice and reinforce behavioral, emotional regulation, and daily living skills identified in the youth’s Individualized Service Plan (ISP).
This role is ideal for individuals interested in youth development, behavioral health, social services, education, or psychology who are comfortable working in home and community-based settings.
Key Responsibilities Skill-Based Support- Work one-on-one with youth to practice skills identified in the ISP (e.g., emotional regulation, communication, coping skills, problem-solving)
- Implement structured, observable activities designed to reinforce positive behaviors
- Model appropriate behaviors and provide consistent reinforcement
- Support youth in home and approved community settings throughout Essex County
- Follow the treatment goals and guidance established by the supervising IIC Clinician
- Communicate regularly with the IIC Clinician regarding youth progress, challenges, and observations
- Participate in team meetings or check-ins as required
- Complete session notes within 24 hours of each visit
- Accurately document skills practiced, activities used, and youth response
- Complete encounters and required documentation as directed
- Maintain compliance with CSOC, Medicaid, HIPAA, and BBABN policies
- Maintain professional boundaries and appropriate role clarity (no therapy or clinical interpretation)
- Adhere to mandated reporting requirements
- Follow BBABN safety, confidentiality, and ethical standards
- High school diploma or GED (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred)
- Experience working with children, adolescents, or families (professional or volunteer)
- Active, clean driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to travel throughout Essex County only
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Bachelor’s degree or coursework in psychology, social work, education, criminal justice, or a related field
- Experience in community-based, school-based, or youth-serving programs
- Interest in behavioral health, counseling, or social services careers
- Bilingual abilities (preferred but not required)
$25–$30 per hour, depending on experience
This is a 1099 independent contractor position
Contractors are responsible for their own taxes, benefits, and insurance
Flexible scheduling based on youth availability and authorization

Sessions typically occur after school hours and early evenings
