The primary purpose of the Patient Services Representative I position is to interview all patients in a professional and courteous manner. Completes efficient, accurate and timely registration of patient demographic information into University Hospital computer system. Ensures that required insurance pre-certification, authorization and documentation is obtained for billing and medical recording processing. Notifies patients of University Hospital policies in reference to patient care and provides excellent customer services and patient satisfaction.
Performs all duties in accordance with University Hospital policy and procedures. This position may be assigned to work in the community on the Mobile Mammogram Van and within the Breast Imaging Center.
- Conduct professional and courteous interviews with all patients.
- Accurately and efficiently register patient demographic details into the University Hospital system.
- Ensure timely completion of insurance pre-certification, authorization, and necessary documentation for billing and medical records.
- Communicate University Hospital policies related to patient care.
- Deliver outstanding customer service to promote patient satisfaction.
- Adhere to all University Hospital policies and procedures in daily tasks.
- May be assigned to work in community outreach settings, including the Mobile Mammogram Van and the Breast Imaging Center.
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Minimum of three (3) years clerical experience in a physician’s office, hospital, or insurance company.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and experienced with electronic registration and medical record systems.
- Strong customer service skills are essential.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for working with a diverse team across various levels.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Must maintain professionalism and perform well under stressful or emergency situations.
- Bilingual skills in Spanish, Portuguese, or French are preferred.

The expected hourly range for this position is $26.84 - $27.34 - $28.16 per hour in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Law; final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
