Overview
Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC), established in 1971, offers a full continuum of evidence-based behavioral health and addiction services for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors throughout New Jersey. UBHC's 1,060 experienced behavioral health professionals and support staff are dedicated to treatment, prevention, and education. UBHC is one of the largest providers of behavioral health care in the country with a budget of $260 million and 15 sites across New Jersey.
Services include inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, screening, crisis stabilization, family/caregiver support, community outreach and case management, supportive housing, supported employment, prevention and consultation, employee assistance programs, and a licensed therapeutic school. UBHC also operates the New Jersey suicide prevention helpline and peer help lines for various groups. In FY2016, UBHC treated 16,199 consumers, had 24,502 admissions, and assisted 19,441 individual callers through peer support.
UBHC is the primary mental health training resource for New Jersey state departments, delivering 16,000 trainings each year.
Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Mental Health Clinician II for the Community Support Services Department within Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.
Under direction, the Mental Health Clinician II serves as the senior mental health practitioner who provides lead functions for the program, including screening of intakes and referrals, care coordination, ensuring completion of program-specific documentation and/or comprehensive assessment and therapeutic intervention for the psychological and social needs of child and adolescent (ages 3-17) and/or adult individuals served (18 and over). Responsibilities include development of treatment plans, conducting individual, group, and family therapy, and providing case management.
Assists with clinical supervision to licensing candidates as assigned.
- Demonstrates knowledge of UBHC's vision, mission and values and behaves in accordance with established policies and procedures as observed by supervisor.
- Provides assessments and ongoing therapeutic services with flexibility, empathy and clinical judgment, based on supervisory feedback and input from individuals served, families and team members.
- Maintains and oversees clinical records in compliance with UBHC, The Joint Commission (TJC) and other regulatory standards.
- Facilitates and leads staff/team meetings, case-conferences and clinical case review meetings; ensures program activities are adequately covered.
- Engages in professional self-development by staying current in trends and developments in mental health, addictions or co-occurring disorders.
- Participates in development, implementation, and evaluation of program services.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Master's Degree in mental health discipline plus two (2) years post-master's experience in delivering psychotherapeutic services to the identified population.
- Or a Doctorate Degree.
Certifications/Licenses
- Independent license to practice as required by New Jersey state laws (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, LCDC, Licensed Psychologist).
- Applicants with a Social Work degree must have active New Jersey certification/licensure as required by the State Board of Social Work.
- Valid driver's license required.

- Ability to speak clearly and write/type proficiently.
- Ability to implement universal precautions and safety precautions.
- Extended sitting to provide treatment and prepare clinical documentation.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Moderate noise (business office with computers and printers, light traffic).
- Subject to unpredictable situations and both medical and psychiatric crises.
- Possible exposure to patients exhibiting assaultive behaviors.
- Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens requiring PPE.
- May be exposed to varying or extreme temperatures.
- Community program work may require use of personal vehicles for outreach.
