About the Role

The Executive Director will provide operational leadership for safe, compassionate, and evidence‑based best practice for all outpatient clinical services. In alignment with the organizational strategic plan and in partnership with the Vice President of Ambulatory Care Services, the Executive Director is responsible for the assessment, development, and implementation of patient care and professional practice standards for nursing staff. The Executive Director also represents, directs and manages the components of patient quality, safety, and survey readiness for ambulatory care services.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the staffing structure and direction of ambulatory care services in collaboration with departmental leaders, with the goal of creating and maintaining a high‑performing team focused on the patient/family.
  • Collaborate with executives, department chairs, division chiefs, hospital, and ambulatory leaders to develop programs in alignment with the organizational strategic plan.
  • Manage the implementation and sustainability of an evidence‑based, patient‑centered care delivery model, and incorporate it into daily operations of the Ambulatory Care practices.
  • Ensure that practice organizational policies, state, and federal practice acts, and all appropriate professional organization standards are adhered to.
  • Represent ambulatory care services on hospital‑based committees and initiatives, including organizational and medical school quality improvement committees.
  • Develop, implement, and sustain ambulatory shared governance committees to support the organizational strategic plan, professional development, and improvement of patient outcomes.
  • In conjunction with the Vice President of Ambulatory Care and organizational leaders, develop and implement an annual operating budget that supports strategic initiatives, reduces cost, improves efficiency, and meets defined patient outcomes across ambulatory care services.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in nursing with a license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of New Jersey;
    Doctoral Degree in Nursing, Health Care Administration, Public Health, Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) required or must be obtained within first two (2) years of hire.
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
  • Six (6) years of clinical nursing experience, including three (3) years of leadership experience within a large healthcare institution.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills; detail oriented.
  • Solid computer skills (Microsoft Word and Excel) required.
  • Able to work independently and flexible hours.
  • Must be available for on‑call emergencies involving the facility, staff, and/or patients.

Compensation

In compliance with New Jersey’s Pay Transparency Act, the salary range for this position is $142,469 - $188,564 - $234,658. University Hospital considers multiple factors when determining compensation, including scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s relevant work experience, education and training, key skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational needs.
