Job Overview
The Division of Infectious Diseases at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School seeks a new faculty member as Medical Director for Infection Prevention and Control to support the infectious diseases consultation and care services and medical student teaching at University Hospital in Newark, NJ. The Director will assist with the development, implementation, and oversight of the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) program in collaboration with hospital leadership and relevant stakeholders, ensuring overall quality, safety, regulatory compliance, and performance excellence of the program.
Responsibilities- Develop, implement, and oversee the IPC program in partnership with hospital leadership and stakeholders.
- Reduce hospital‑acquired infection (HAI) rates and improve IPC performance.
- Create and implement policies and procedures to mitigate infections and enhance IPC outcomes.
- Respond to outbreaks and pathogens of epidemiologic significance.
- Monitor and interpret epidemiologic data and maintain regulatory requirements related to IPC, including reporting to the National Health Safety Network (NHSN), CMS, and internal metrics.
- Participate in multidisciplinary committees and provide IPC recommendations to staff and hospital leadership.
- Consult on the management of a wide variety of infectious diseases in collaboration with a dedicated w.
- Provide direct patient care to infectious diseases patients, including those living with HIV, within a state‑of‑the‑art multidisciplinary ambulatory practice.
- Mentor and teach medical students as part of the New Jersey Medical School Community Learning Group.
- Engage in clinical research studies and may lead research initiatives at the onsite NIH‑funded Clinical Trials Unit focused on HIV and COVID‑19 treatment and prevention.
- Board certified or eligible in Medicine and Infectious Diseases.
- Strong commitment to patient care, teaching, and research.
- Experience in infection prevention and control preferred but candidates at various levels of experience are encouraged to apply, as mentoring will be available.
