Position Summary

We're seeking an Assistant Controller/Controller to join our Finance team and play a critical role in our accounting operations and financial reporting. The Assistant Controller/Controller will oversee the day-to-day accounting functions, lead month-end and year-end close processes, and ensure the accuracy and integrity of our financial statements. They will also lead and manage the annual audit. This role will manage the accounting team, implement process improvements, and serve as a key liaison with external auditors and advisors.

The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting expertise, leadership capabilities, and a hands-on approach to managing financial operations in a fast-paced, growing organization. This role will report into the VP of Finance to support strategic initiatives and ensure robust financial controls and reporting, managing a team of two indiviuals.

• This role is fully remote however, the employee must be located in CT, NJ, or NY. The compensation range for this role is $135,000 - $150,000 annually and is bonus eligible.

The Impact You'll Make
  • Lead and manage the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
  • Oversee the accounting team, providing mentorship, training, and performance management to ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Manage the general ledger, ensuring accurate and complete recording of all transactions and proper account reconciliations.
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements, variance analyses, and supporting schedules for management review.
  • Coordinate and manage external audits, preparing audit schedules and serving as the primary point of contact for auditors.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls and accounting policies to ensure compliance and mitigate risk.
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and inventory accounting processes to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Drive process improvements and system enhancements, including optimization of Net Suite workflows and reporting capabilities.
  • Partner with the VP of Finance on budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis projects.
  • Manage tax compliance activities, including sales tax filings and coordination with external tax advisors.
  • Support special projects and ad hoc analyses as needed by leadership.
What You Bring
  • CPA required;
    Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 7-10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience managing month-end close processes and preparing financial statements.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop a team, with excellent coaching and mentorship skills.
  • Experience working with external auditors and managing audit processes.
  • Hands-on experience with ERP systems, preferably Net Suite.
  • Must be proficient at Microsoft Office primarily Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Strong Cost Accounting knowledge a plus.
  • Consumer goods, retail, or e-commerce experience preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a process improvement mindset.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and adapt to changing priorities.
