Job Overview
Title: Staff Accountant
Location: Newark, NJ, on-site 5 days/week
Pay: $70,000-$90,000
Job DescriptionWe are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Staff Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in private lending and/or real estate accounting and demonstrate a deep understanding of private equity financial structures.
What you will do- Accounting & Financial Reporting: Maintain accurate financial records for private lending and real estate investment vehicles. Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards (GAAP or IFRS). Handle the consolidation of financials across multiple entities and projects.
- Fund Operations: Manage capital calls, distributions, and investor allocations. Monitor fund expenses and ensure accurate fee calculations, including management and performance fees. Reconcile investment portfolios, bank accounts, and intercompany accounts.
- Transaction Support: Support due diligence processes for new investments, including financial modeling and valuation. Assist in structuring and accounting for acquisitions, dispositions, and financing arrangements. Track and analyze loan performance metrics and real estate asset valuations.
- Compliance & Audit: Ensure compliance with financial and regulatory requirements specific to private equity and real estate sectors. Collaborate with external auditors and tax advisors to support audits and tax filings.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance financial reporting processes and internal controls. Implement new accounting software or systems as needed to support the firm's growth.
- Qualifications &
Experience:
3-5 years of relevant accounting experience with focus on private lending, real estate, or private equity strongly preferred. Knowledge of GAAP required. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CFA designation preferred. Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel; experience with fund accounting systems is a plus. Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards and partnership accounting principles.
Experience with REITs or loan portfolios is highly desirable. Exceptional analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Must-have:
Real estate accounting background and a bachelor8s in Accounting or Finance - Quick Books strongly preferred
