Client is looking for a full time Estimator / Project Manager (MEP) to report to office 5 days a week in Essex County, NJ. Role reports to Owner.
We are seeking an experienced Estimator / Project Manager with 5+ years of experience in Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) construction. This dual-role position is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates while also managing awarded projects from pre-construction through closeout.
The ideal candidate has strong technical MEP knowledge, proven estimating accuracy, project financial oversight experience, and the ability to lead cross-functional teams to deliver projects safely, on schedule, and within budget.
- Prepare detailed conceptual, schematic, and hard-bid estimates for MEP systems.
- Perform quantity takeoffs for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing scopes.
- Review drawings, specifications, and bid documents to identify scope requirements.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing.
- Analyze labor, material, and equipment costs.
- Develop bid proposals, clarifications, and scope narratives.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits.
- Identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving alternatives.
- Maintain historical cost data and estimating databases.
- Manage MEP projects from award through final closeout.
- Develop and maintain project schedules and budgets.
- Oversee procurement of materials and subcontractor agreements.
- Coordinate with clients, general contractors, engineers, and field teams.
- Monitor project financials, including cost tracking, forecasting, and change order management.
- Ensure compliance with contract documents and project specifications.
- Conduct project meetings and provide status updates.
- Manage RFI, submittal, and documentation processes.
- Ensure safety compliance and quality control standards are met.
- Lead project closeout, commissioning coordination, and final documentation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in MEP estimating and/or project management.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical (HVAC), electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Experience with commercial, industrial, healthcare, multifamily, or institutional projects preferred.
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Trimble, Accubid, Bluebeam, Plan Swift, or similar).
- Experience with project management software (Procore, MS Project, etc.).
- Strong understanding of construction contracts and cost control principles.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
- OSHA knowledge and commitment to jobsite safety.
