Mechanical Engineer
Verustruct is developing a suite of robotic construction technologies to deliver affordable, sustainable, safe, and beautiful housing to help close the U.S. housing gap of 4.5 million homes. Using our patent-pending translational slipform technology (TSF), we take a different approach to 3D printed buildings by extruding load‑bearing walls, integrated with MEP systems, without the use of large and expensive support structures.
We are looking for a VP of Engineering to help ensure cross‑functional collaboration and product development success as we scale.
The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will work within our engineering team, reporting directly to the CEO, to help develop products that transform the construction process into a faster, cheaper, and more reliable solution.
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will take ownership of the mechanical design and functionality improvements of the TSF device. You will ensure that the device meets all of the requirements for building walls, scalability, and efficient integration with civil and electrical inputs. In this role, you will lead the mechanical design process, collaborate across engineering teams, and help provide guidance while helping mentor Level I & Level II Mechanical Engineers.
If you can hypothesize, test, fail, iterate quickly, and communicate your findings effectively, you will thrive in this role.
We value diverse backgrounds and believe that qualities such as motivation, interest, and the ability to learn quickly are just as important as meeting the qualifications listed. If you’re excited about the opportunity and feel you can contribute, even if you don’t meet every requirement, we encourage you to apply.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Design and build the TSF system, focusing on the articulation of the TSF device, how it scales, and its movement mechanisms.
- Collaborate closely with the civil engineering team to ensure the design meets constraints related to weight, material, size, and structural integrity.
- Work with actuators, sensors, and mechatronic systems to integrate necessary movement and control mechanisms into the TSF device, ensuring precise operation and scalability of the TSF device.
- Manage prototyping, testing, and iteration of mechanical components, ensuring design adjustments are made based on testing feedback to improve functionality.
- Conduct simulations, finite element analysis (FEA), and material testing to assess the durability and efficiency of mechanical systems.
- Competitive salary aligned with early‑stage tech startups with potential for equity participation
- Performance‑based incentives tied to funding milestones, product development, or strategic objectives
- Standard health insurance and flexible work arrangements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 4+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, ideally within robotics, construction, or automation.
- Strong foundation in mechanical design and engineering principles.
- Strong understanding of mechanical system design, materials selection, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience with complex system integration and troubleshooting in an engineering environment.
- Experience with 3D printing technologies or construction automation is a plus.
- Significant experience with CAD software (i.e., NX (preferred), Solid Works, AutoCAD, or similar).
- Significant experience with FEA software (i.e., Ansys (preferred), and Femap).
- Experience or familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to work in a collaborative environment.
- Strong attention to detail and passion for continuous learning.
- Engineer‑in‑Training or equivalent credential.
