Your future role

"Take on a new challenge and apply your engineering expertise in a new cutting-edge field. You’ll work alongside collaborative and innovative teammates.
You'll play a vital role in enhancing the safety, reliability, and passenger experience of the Newark Air Train system. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with teams across the business (Operations & Maintenance, cross-functional departments, contractors), design detailed technical specifications, and guide blue‑coloured staff through project implementation while ensuring seamless integration and operational continuity—and much more."

We’ll look to you for:
  • Supporting the CARP department in developing and implementing projects tailored to the Newark Air Train system’s needs.
  • Effectively communicating all technical details of projects to internal and external stakeholders to secure necessary approvals and funding.
  • Designing detailed drawings, technical specifications, and comprehensive scopes of work for various projects.
  • Collaborating with the Operations and Maintenance teams to troubleshoot technical issues and respond to emergency situations.
  • Acting promptly during emergencies to diagnose problems and implement effective solutions, ensuring minimal disruption to service.
  • Guiding blue‑coloured teams throughout the project lifecycle by developing clear procedures, instructional guides, and conducting hands‑on training sessions.
  • Leading and overseeing the installation and commissioning processes as part of CARP initiatives, ensuring efficient system integration and troubleshooting any issues.
  • Ensuring meticulous record‑keeping by maintaining accurate documentation for all project activities, including inspections, modifications, and changes.
  • Contributing to the department’s annual project sales targets by securing approvals and funding for proposed solutions.
  • Working collaboratively with cross‑functional teams, including contractors, to ensure successful project execution.
All about you
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience or understanding of project engineering, field service engineering, or similar roles, particularly with a focus on electrical systems (rail industry experience preferred).
  • Knowledge of reading and interpreting electrical schematics, technical drawings, and service manuals.
  • Familiarity with project management and implementation processes, including design, installation, and commissioning.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively explain technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills for addressing technical issues and emergency situations.
  • Ability to guide and train blue‑coloured teams in project procedures, ensuring safety and efficiency.
  • Commitment to meticulous documentation and record‑keeping for project activities.
  • Adaptability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively with cross‑functional teams.
