Position Summary:
The First-Year Writing Program (FYWP) at the New Jersey Institute of Technology is currently recruiting part-time instructors toteach one or both of its foundational writing courses beginning in the Fall 2025semester. The first course in the sequence, ENGL 101 Introduction to Academic Writing, is designed to transition students from high school to college reading and writing with a focus on the writing process, genre study, and informationliteracy.
The second course in the two-term sequence, ENGL 102 Introduction to Research Writing, builds on the reading, writing, and rhetorical skillspracticed during the first semester, offering a road to success in collegewriting. This subsequent course constructs a multidisciplinary approach to information literacy, research work, and writing. Typically, instructors hired for the fall semester will primarilyteach sections of ENGL 101 and, for the spring, ENGL 102.
The FYWP is aconstituent part of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, which isan interdisciplinary community of researchers and educators that encouragescurrent pedagogy consistent with the aims of a technologically intensiveuniversity. Questions can be directed to Kim Chen, Director, review of applications will begin on April 15 and continue until the positions arefilled.
Essential Functions:
-Submitting syllabi at the start of the semester.
-Delivering lectures and/or facilitating activities designed to engage students at all class meetings.
-Assigning written coursework and grading in a timely manner, and providing ongoing feedback and final grading of students' writtenwork.
-Experience in teaching genre-based prose writing, reading skills, and critical thinking is required, and all teaching assignments entail face-to-faceinstruction.
Additional Functions:
-Availability outside of classroom hours is necessary for student conferences.

Qualifications:
-Applicants should have an M.A. in English, MFA, or graduate degree in a related field and are expected to follow courserequirements and adhere to academic integrity policies.
-At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate tothe satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Salary Information:
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the rate for this position is $2668 per contact hour (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
