The department supports the needs of our diverse student body and alumni/ae by offering practice‑area career panels, résumé and interview workshops, mock interview sessions, networking events, mentorship programs, and a range of other initiatives designed to promote professional growth and success.

Rutgers University – Newark (RU‑N) is seeking an Alumni Career Counselor who will assist two existing law school counselors. This is a temporary, part‑time position until additional counselors are hired.
The Alumni Career Counselor will perform the following core duties:
- Provide one‑on‑one counseling to law school alumni on career planning and job‑search strategies, including self‑assessment, networking, and professional skills development.
- Develop short‑ and long‑term job‑search action plans and follow up with alumni to ensure completion of defined steps.
- Review resumes and cover letters, conduct mock interviews, and advise alumni on applications and placement efforts.

Salary Details$40–$60 per hour, depending on qualifications, experience and funding availability. Compensation will be competitive and equitable with the university’s broader structure.

Part‑time – 19.5 hours per week

QualificationsMinimum education and experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. At least three to five years of relevant professional experience in an administrative and/or supervisory function, excellent communication skills and computer literacy.
Preferred qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to market the law school, strong judgment and independent decision making, advanced administrative, analytical and organizational skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Skills and Abilities
- Juris Doctor or equivalent legal degree
- In‑depth knowledge of legal environments and practice experience
- At least five years of experience advising law students and alumni in a law school setting
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and counseling skills
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities without continuous supervision
- Some travel and regular evening hours
