Posting Summary

Rutgers University School of Health Professions (SHP) is seeking a Chair for the Department of Clinical and Preventive Nutrition Sciences (DCPNS). SHP is the largest school of health professions in the nation with over 25 academic programs ranging from certificate to doctorate across the health‑care landscape.

Reporting to the Dean of SHP, the Department Chair will provide education, research, and administrative leadership of the department, including the Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition‑for‑Aspiring Dietitians and the Doctor of Clinical Nutrition programs.

Salary Details

A minimum of $175,000. The final salary offer may be determined by several factors, including qualifications, experience, expertise, availability of department or grant funds, market benchmarks, and internal equity. Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and administration of the department, including budgeting, oversight of expenditures, personnel, facilities planning, resource allocation, academic and program planning, and policy implementation.
  • Oversee the operation of departmental academic programs, including maintenance of applicable accreditations.
  • Review the budget, program, and departmental plans, and ensure ongoing communication with department members.
  • Supervise program directors, faculty, and staff; assign workloads and conduct annual evaluations.
  • Make recommendations regarding appointments, reappointments, promotions, leaves, dismissals, and acceptance of resignations in accordance with university and school policies.
  • Offer mentorship and support for faculty professional development, research, and scholarly productivity; establish annual goals and objectives for individual faculty.
  • Develop department strategic and operational plans.
  • Conduct an annual review of the department’s educational, research/scholarship, and service activities and submit an annual report of accomplishments to the Dean.
  • In conjunction with the Vice Chair of Research, oversee faculty and student research to ensure compliance with regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in graduate student research advisement.
  • Participate in departmental student disciplinary actions in accordance with university and school policies.
  • Foster collaborations within the School, Rutgers Health, the University, and national and international partners.
  • Engage in research, grant writing, publications, presentations, and other scholarly activities on a national and international level.
  • Oversee all clinical operations within the department.
  • Participate in graduate course development, teaching, and interprofessional education.
  • Teach academic courses at a level of workload consistent with other duties.
  • Develop strategies for departmental publicity, websites, articles, and promotional materials.
  • Serve on university, school, and department committees as needed.
  • Provide leadership on professional committees, professional organizations, or editorial boards at a national and/or international level.
  • Make recommendations to the Dean regarding related course and program offerings and other issues of concern to the department.
