Per Diem Teacher – Newark Board of Education
Human Resource Services – 765 Broad Street, Newark, NJ 07102 – Roger León, Superintendent
Location:
Various Locations (Pending availability of funds and Board of Education approval).
- New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate, Certificate of Eligibility (CE), Certificate of Eligibility with Advance Standing (CEAS) or Valid NJ DOE Substitute Teacher’s Certificate.
- OR 30 college credits or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and NJ DOE Substitute Teacher Credential.
- District and State fingerprint credentialing required and clearance.
- Principal recommendation and evaluation by a school principal (if applicable).
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
- Authorized to work in the USA.
- Supervise/manage student grades (K-12).
- Adhere to daily and school schedules as noted.
- Execute lessons as the curriculum dictates.
- Create, plan and teach lessons if none are provided.
- Maintain a broad knowledge of all facets related to the teaching/educating assignment as related to the subject and grade level of the students.
- Return instructional materials, equipment, and keys to the proper place. Leave classroom in a presentable manner.
- Collect and place students’ completed assignments on classroom teacher’s desk and note pertinent information resulting from the day’s event.
- Implement lesson plans, ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner that motivates students to learn and participate.
- Ensure adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students.
- Maintain and establish a safe classroom setting, promoting active learning and demonstrating good classroom management skills.
- Report all students’ injuries, accidents, illnesses, inappropriate behavior, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as reasonably possible.
- Dismiss students from the classroom/playground before leaving the building.
- Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
Principal
Salary, Employment Period and Union AffiliationSalary:
Thirty (30) or Sixty (60) college credits – $155.00/day;
Bachelor’s degree – $185.00/day.
Employment Period:
Ten (10) months (District requires at least 15 days of service during the school year).
Union Affiliation:
Newark Teacher’s Union (NTU).
