Position for the Newark Public Schools system.

School Overview
First‑of‑its‑kind, the newly opened Sir Isaac Newton Elementary School stimulates students’ love for science through project‑based learning. Students are engaged with hands‑on learning in STEM, architecture, and more. The school will expand to include Pre‑K through Grade 8, with graduates attending Science Park High School.

Position Overview
We invite you to join a brand‑new team to teach and inspire students to explore their academic and creative potential through the lens of applied science. As a member of our team you will provide input into curriculum design and give students space to imagine themselves as leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Qualifications and Requirements

  • Appropriate New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate, Certificate of Eligibility (CE), or Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) as required.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (preferred), unless otherwise specified by the New Jersey Department of Education.

Basic Functions and Responsibilities

  • Plan a program of study that meets individual students’ needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Evaluate student progress regularly and prepare progress reports.
  • Instruct pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the course of study common to all teachers, as specified in state law and district regulations.
  • Provide individual, small, or large‑group instruction to adapt the curriculum to students with varying intellectual and special abilities.
  • Instruct pupils in proper care and use of textbooks, equipment, and materials.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to provide a safe, orderly, and productive environment.
  • Select and requisition books, instructional materials, equipment, aids, and maintain required inventory records.
  • Develop instructional plans and organize class time to provide a balanced program of instruction.
  • Develop and maintain professional competence through participation in in‑service education activities provided by the district and in self‑selected professional growth activities.
  • Supervise out‑of‑classroom activities for pupils during the assigned working day, as required.
  • Plan and coordinate the work of aides, teacher assistants, and other paraprofessionals.
  • Identify pupils’ needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Communicate with parents and pupil personnel staff members on individual pupil progress and development.
  • Maintain attendance accounting and business service as required.
  • Develop and participate in the sponsorship of student activities and faculty committees.
  • Act as a resource person on an interdepartmental level to relate appropriate aspects of your subject area to other subject areas.
  • Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents regarding academic and behavioral progress.
  • Perform other duties and tasks assigned by the supervisor.
