Brief Description
The Business Development Associate will work across all NJII divisions with a strong focus on AI and Healthcare initiatives. This role is responsible for identifying partnership opportunities, uncovering unique growth areas, and driving revenue generation through strategic engagement with industry, academia, and other stakeholders. The Associate will serve as a key driver in expanding NJII’s market presence, cultivating relationships with C‑suite executives, and showcasing NJII’s capabilities to prospective clients and collaborators.
Key Responsibilities- Annual Performance Goals:
- Events Management:
Organize at least 6 on‑campus symposia or presentations annually, each with 40+ attendees.
Responsibilities include:- Planning and coordinating logistics.
- Engaging companies and industry leaders.
- Generating leads for NJII divisions.
- In‑Person Sales Presentations:
Conduct a minimum of 50 in‑person presentations annually, including lunch‑and‑learns, meetings, and company site visits to showcase NJII’s capabilities. - Revenue Generation:
Drive new business with a target of generating >$1M annually across NJII’s divisions. - Public Relations and Partnerships:
Secure 5–6 Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) or press announcements per year to elevate NJII’s brand and public visibility. - Business Development
Activities:- Outbound Outreach:
Conduct proactive outreach via Linked In messages, emails, or other channels to prospective clients and collaborators (target: 100 outbound contacts per week). - Networking & Event Attendance:
Attend local events, conferences, and industry gatherings to build relationships, identify partnership opportunities, and scout potential revenue streams across grants, contracts, and other initiatives. - Sales and Marketing Materials:
Develop professional, high‑impact presentations and capabilities materials to clearly communicate NJII’s value proposition. - CRM Management:
Maintain and manage NJII’s CRM system, oversee biweekly business development reporting, and ensure tracking of leads, partnerships, and outcomes. - Cross‑Divisional
Collaboration:
Identify and pursue opportunities for NJII to strengthen its brand through joint initiatives, including collaborative video content, grant partnerships, or joint projects with industry stakeholders.
- Outbound Outreach:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, life sciences, healthcare, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Proven experience in business development, corporate partnerships, or sales, preferably in healthcare, technology or AI domains.
- Strong networking skills with the ability to engage C‑suite executives.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet ambitious performance targets.
- Experience with CRM systems and sales reporting tools.
- Strategic thinker with strong problem‑solving capabilities.
- Self‑motivated, proactive, and results oriented.
- Collaborative team player capable of working across multiple divisions.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with ability to identify and capitalize on growth opportunities.
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency law, the annual salary range for this position is $70,000 - $100,000 (USD). NJII considers factors like, but not limited to, job scope, experience, education, skills, internal equity, and market conditions when making offers. This pay range covers base pay only and excludes bonuses or other incentives.

Final candidates will be subject to a background screening. Employment or continued employment is contingent upon NJII’s acceptance of the results of the background screening.
