The OpportunityA reputable construction services company in Northern New Jersey is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its expanding finance function. With a strong regional presence, consistent project pipeline, and a leadership team known for stability and long employee tenure, the organization offers both security and meaningful responsibility.
This position combines traditional general ledger ownership with active involvement in project and job cost accounting, well suited for someone who enjoys technical accounting while staying close to operational performance.
Position OverviewReporting into finance leadership, the Senior Accountant will take a lead role in the monthly close process, internal reporting, and project-level financial oversight. You’ll collaborate directly with project managers and operational teams to ensure cost accuracy, clean reporting, and transparency into project profitability.
Core Responsibilities- Manage general ledger functions including journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Contribute to month-end close and preparation of internal financial statements
- Analyze budget-to-actual results and investigate project-level variances
- Oversee job cost tracking and WIP schedules
- Monitor labor, material costs, subcontractor expenses, and change order activity
- Assist with billing processes, cash flow tracking, and forecasting initiatives
- Participate in audit preparation and ensure GAAP compliance
- Maintain and improve financial data integrity within Sage Intacct
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 4+ years of accounting experience, preferably within construction or project-driven environments
- Strong general ledger and month-end close background
- Experience with job costing and WIP reporting highly preferred
- Advanced Excel skills
- CPA or pursuing CPA a plus
- Financially stable construction firm with strong backlog visibility
