Job Overview – Assistant Controller (Family Office)
Compensation: $150,000 – $200,000/year + bonus
Location:
Newark, NJ
Schedule:
Monday to Friday (Hybrid)
Atlantic Group is hiring an Assistant Controller (Family Office) in Newark, NJ for our client, overseeing accounting operations across a complex, multi-entity family office environment. This hybrid role supports financial reporting, partnership and investment accounting, real estate operations, and cash management while partnering closely with tax, investment, and leadership teams to strengthen controls, improve processes, and optimize financial systems.
Responsibilities as the Assistant Controller (Family Office)- Close & Financial Reporting: Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, including preparation of financial statements, management reports, and internal reporting packages.
- Accounting Operations Oversight: Oversee day-to-day accounting operations across multi-entity structures, including LLCs, trusts, partnerships, and foundations.
- Investment & Partnership Accounting: Manage accounting for complex investments and partnership structures, including capital accounts, allocations, capital calls, and distributions.
- Cash Flow & Liquidity Management: Oversee cash flow forecasting, liquidity tracking, and banking activity across entities to support operational and investment needs.
- Controls, Systems & Leadership: Ensure strong internal controls while driving process improvements, systems enhancements, and hands‑on leadership of the accounting team.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field required.
- Certification: Active CPA required.
- Experience:7+ years of progressive accounting experience combining public and private accounting, with family office experience preferred.
- Industry Knowledge:Strong partnership accounting experience with exposure to alternative investments and solid knowledge of U.S. GAAP and multi-entity accounting structures.

Skills:
Advanced Excel proficiency with experience supporting accounting systems and automation, with familiarity in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Quick Books preferred. - Skills & Attributes:Detail‑oriented, analytical professional with strong communication and organizational skills, the ability to work independently, and a discreet, service‑oriented mindset.
