Job Title: Accounting Clerk Reports To: Controller Employment Type: Full-Time, Onsite

Location: Newark, NJ (5 days per week onsite)

Compensation: $55,000–$65,000 annually

Position Overview

The Accounting Clerk supports the daily financial and administrative functions of a mid-sized nonprofit organization. This role is responsible for accurate transaction processing, maintaining organized financial records, and assisting the Finance team with ongoing operational needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process routine accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
  • Prepare vendor payments, enter invoices, and assist with billing.
  • Support monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Assist with payroll processing and employee reimbursement requests.
  • Record journal entries and maintain structured financial files.
  • Support grant tracking, audit preparation, and month-end closing activities.
  • Provide general clerical and administrative support to the Finance Department.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; relevant experience may substitute for education.
  • 1–3 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience, preferably within a nonprofit setting.
  • Experience with accounting systems; familiarity with MIP Fund Accounting is a plus.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work efficiently in a busy environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to confidentiality.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
