PRIMARY FUNCTION
To drive a laundry truck transporting clean and soiled linen between laundry and hospital.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Drive in accordance with police and safety regulations.
- Loads, unloads and transports all linens and other hospital equipment between hospitals.
- Cares for and maintains vehicles and makes minor repairs.
- Loads and unloads trucks to/from laundry and other storage areas.
- Assists in laundry when necessary such as sorting linens, loading and unloading washers and dryers.
- Works rotating shifts.
- Turns in a daily vehicle inspections report.
- Loads laundry up to 1000 lbs, pushes and/or pulls up and down ramps from laundry areas to truck loading ramps.
- Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices. Reports to supervisor in a timely manner any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Six months on‑job training.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
- Knowledge of defensive driving.
- Knowledge of Christiana Care and departmental policies and procedures.
- Ability to drive a van and/or truck.
- Ability to read, write, and follow simple written oral instructions.
- Skill in good motor coordination, manual dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination when driving truck or handling materials.
- Skill in oral and written communications.
- Valid State of Delaware Driver's License Class 'B' CDL and safe driving record.
Requires lifting, pushing, pulling heavy linen carts daily in transporting them to specified locations.
WORKING CONDITIONS- Exposure to hazardous chemicals, chemical odors, and loud noises.
- Possible exposure to sharp instruments and infectious diseases.
- Adverse weather and road conditions.
This position has a starting rate of $20.23 per hour, regardless of prior experience. After six months of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $23.79 per hour. After one year of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $24.98. This pay rate/range represents Christiana Care’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting.
The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including, without limitation, skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
