Christiana Care is seeking a Senior Performance Improvement Program Manager (RN) to join our team. This healthcare quality professional will provide leadership and support for systemwide performance improvement initiatives that align with our organizational mission, priorities, and goals. Monday-Friday - Day Shift. Newark, DE.
OverviewSenior Performance Improvement Program Manager (RN) responsible for oversight of performance improvement efforts, outcomes reporting, and management of quality, patient safety, and process improvement projects. This role requires regular interactions with multiple departments and stakeholders to advance a highly reliable organization.
Responsibilities- Evaluate performance and process improvement methods (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma, Plan-Do-Check-Act) and apply best suited approaches to achieve outcomes.
- Use quality improvement tools (e.g., Fishbone diagrams, 5 Whys, Value Stream Mapping, Failure Mode Effects Analysis, Root Cause Analysis) and analyze outputs to redesign processes toward improved performance.
- Access and use information resources (e.g., electronic health records, registries, policies, guidelines, databases, benchmark data, published research) to identify opportunities for improvement and demonstrate current practice.
- Demonstrate expertise in analytical and statistical tools (e.g., hypothesis testing, statistical process control, distribution, control charts) to measure processes and support data-driven decisions.
- Communicate performance improvement priorities and results using narrative and visual tools (graphs, dashboards, scorecards) appropriate to the audience.
- Assist in defining customer needs, expected benefits, and alignment of projects with organizational mission, vision, values, goals, and priorities.
- Design project plans including opportunity statement, goals, scope, timeline, and milestones using project management methodologies and performance metrics.
- Manage work defined by project plans to ensure goals and timelines are met.
- Engage and support stakeholders to drive projects to completion.
- Track, monitor, and communicate project progress and notify the project sponsor of deviations from the plan.
- Promote a culture of trust, collaboration, continuous improvement, and learning to achieve sustained results.
- Facilitate an environment oriented to collaboration and problem solving.
- Convey enthusiasm and motivate key stakeholders and team members.
- Communicate vision, expectations, and results clearly and consistently to stakeholders.
- Use meaningful measurement tools to justify improvements, implement changes, and measure ROI.
- Identify and mitigate barriers to sustainable change; implement accountability structures to deploy, monitor, and ensure compliance with changes.
- Provide education, training, and tools for effective implementation of process and workflow changes.
- Remain current with applicable regulatory requirements.
- Manage, coach, and mentor less experienced quality professionals in performance improvement tools.
- Train and mentor non-project managers in basic project management skills to raise organizational acumen.
- Identify resources and analytical methods to support performance improvement activities (e.g., dashboards with clinical and business metrics).
- Support development of departmental and organizational policies, procedures, and training to achieve goals for a highly reliable organization.
- Participate in systemwide management activities, meetings, and educational programs as requested.
- Demonstrate ongoing professional growth and serve as a role model for staff.
- Prepare and submit projects for publication and external presentation.
- Participate as a member of local or national quality-related organizations.
- Perform other duties related to process improvement as determined by Clinical Effectiveness.
- Active nursing license in the State of Delaware.
- Master’s degree in nursing, healthcare, or related field.
- Formal project management training or equivalent with five years of experience managing senior-level, complex organizational projects across service lines.
- Demonstrated sustainment of achieving desired outcomes and leading transformational quality/safety projects.
- Certification by National Association for Health Care Quality (CPHQ) within 18 months of eligibility.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt required;
Black Belt preferred. - Experience in managing and mentoring other healthcare professionals.
- Experience leading, facilitating, and participating in multidisciplinary teams using performance improvement tools and methodologies.
- Experience or education in one or more of the following areas is desirable:
Clinical Effectiveness, health IT, performance improvement, outcome analysis, safety science, utilization management, population health. - Experience with electronic medical records, Microsoft Office, Tableau, and other data collection, analysis, and reporting platforms.
