Lead Image Chain System Engineer (Detector Expert)
The Lead Image Chain System Engineer (Detector Expert) is the senior technical lead for x‑ray detectors and the full imaging chain s role owns the detector technology roadmap, drives innovation in detector design and signal processing, and ensures best‑in‑class image quality and dose performance across Hologic’s x‑ray platforms (e.g., mammography, DXA, radiography). You will be both strategic and hands‑on, leading complex R&D efforts while mentoring others and collaborating across hardware, software, clinical, and regulatory teams.
We are located in Newark, DE and will require onsite presence.
- Define and drive the detector and image chain roadmap across multiple imaging platforms.
- Lead end‑to‑end detector signal chain development (analog front end, digitization, calibration, dose management, noise control).
- Develop and integrate image correction, denoising, artifact mitigation, and enhancement algorithms into real‑time pipelines.
- Establish and execute image quality metrics and test methods (e.g., DQE, MTF, NNPS, SNR/CNR, low‑dose performance).
- Guide system‑level integration of detectors within imaging platforms and align with overall system architecture.
- Mentor engineers and lead hands‑on prototyping, bring‑up, testing, and technology transfer into product teams.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure regulatory compliance and support risk management, requirements, design reviews, and verification.
- Contribute to IP strategy and technology partnerships with suppliers and academic collaborators.
- Education: BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, Computer Engineering/Science, or related field (PhD preferred).
- Experience:
- 10+ years in x‑ray imaging systems with clear ownership of detector‑centric projects.
- Hands‑on development/commercialization of medical x‑ray detectors for at least two of: specimen imaging, general radiology, DXA, mammography.
- Experience spanning early technology exploration, new product development, and design controls in regulated medical device environments.
- Demonstrated technical leadership while remaining hands‑on.
- Technical Expertise:
- Deep knowledge of x‑ray physics, detector science, and digital detectors (e.g., CMOS, TFT, scintilla tors, direct conversion, photon counting).
- Strong understanding of image quality science and detector performance optimization.
- Proficiency in signal processing and image algorithms (correction, denoising, artifact mitigation), with skills in Python/C++/MATLAB.
- Familiarity with medical device standards (e.g., IEC 60601, ISO 13485, FDA design controls).
