Cardiovascular Surgery Team, PA

Christiana Care is currently recruiting for a Physician Assistant to work in the Cardiac Surgery Professional Services. This is a full‑time position that promotes a work/life balance. The position consists of a hybrid schedule — five 8‑hour shifts or 12‑hour day/night shifts for rotating 24/7 coverage, and rotating OR call.

• Perform endoscopic vein harvest. Experience with endoscopic radial artery harvest is a plus.
• Assist the cardiac surgeon in operating room procedures.
• Conduct history and physical examinations.
• Perform consultations.
• Provide perioperative patient management including ICU and step‑down management.
• Provide postoperative office patient management.
• Collaborate with physicians and other members of the medical staff.
• Screen patients to determine need for urgent medical attention.
• Prepare patients preoperatively for surgery.
• Evaluate changes in patient therapy.
• Write orders and modify treatment plans.
• Educate and counsel patients and patient families on health and disease.

• Completion of a Physician Assistant Program and board certification as a Physician Assistant.
• Licensure or license eligible for Registered Physician Assistant in Delaware.
• Certified or eligible for certification by the National Commission of Physician Assistants.
• Apply for and receive an RXPA number which permits prescribing non‑controlled substances.
• Apply for and receive a DEA number to prescribe controlled substances.
• ACLS required.
• Two years of experience, cardiac surgery experience preferred.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
